SPECIAL EMPLOYEE INFORMATION DURING PRESIDENTIAL INAUGURAL PERIOD

During the period from January 17 through January 20, 2009, employees in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area will be affected by activities associated with the Presidential Inauguration. Restrictions and closures of roads will make travel and parking difficult, and mass transportation systems will be crowded.

The following guidance is provided to employees working in or visiting the Main Interior Building and South Interior Buildings (MIB/SIB):

noneSaturday, January 17 and Sunday, January 18 - MIB/SIB will be closed to visitors and non-essential contractors. MIB/SIB will be open to employees who must work over the weekend.

noneMonday, January 19 – Martin Luther King Day -- is a Federal holiday. MIB/SIB closed to visitors and non-essential contractors. MIB/SIB will be open to employees who must to work during the day; however, employees may not remain in the building overnight.

noneTuesday, January 20 -- Inauguration Day -- is a Federal holiday for employees who work in the District of Columbia, Montgomery or Prince George's counties in Maryland, Arlington or Fairfax Counties in Virginia, or the cities of Alexandria or Falls Church in Virginia. Only those MIB/SIB employees specifically notified should report to work that day. Other employees are requested to refrain from working in MIB/SIB on January 20, The building will remain accessible to employees who may be attending Inaugural activities and require use of the building for rest rooms or warming purposes; family members may accompany employees but must be escorted while in the building.

Employees should not plan on parking in MIB/SIB lots from January 18 through January 20, 2009. During this period, parking in MIB will be reserved for emergency teams. Parking in the SIB lot has been limited due to construction; road closures may render the lot inaccessible.

All employees are expected to return to work on Wednesday, January 21, 2009. For Washington area employees with primary work sites other than MIB/SIB, additional guidance may be available from you bureau/office, facility manager, or supervisor.
