Transportation Management Policy Overview

GSA’s mission is to create an environment for improving the government’s management and control of its transportation services for freight and household goods. The annual expenditure for these services exceeds $20 billion governmentwide.

To facilitate management reform, GSA collaboratively works with agencies, industry and associations to identify and promote regulatory flexibility and business-like incentives and tools.

All the transportation management policies support the President’s Management Agenda (PMA) by incorporating four of the five governmentwide initiatives found in the PMA:

  • Expanded Electronic Government,
  • Improved Financial Performance,
  • Budget and Performance Integration, and
  • Strategic Management of Human Capital.

Providing a clear mission, these polices are driven by the single purpose of improving the management of procured transportation services exceeding $20 billion governmentwide.
