Daily definition: Declaratory judgment
From Wex, everyone's resource for law learning
A binding judgment issued by the court that defines the legal relationship between the parties and their rights with respect to the matter before the court. A declaratory judgment does not provide for enforcement of the judgment, however. In other words, it states the opinion of the court regarding the matter before it without requiring that either of the parties do anything. See, e.g., Roe v. Wade, 410 US 113 (1973).
