Research Information

Education:

Southern Illinois University Forestry, B.S., 1974; VPI, Forest Biology, M.S., 1976; Utah State University, Forest Ecology, Ph.D., 1988

Current Research:

Projects currently underway examine temperate recalcitrant seeds for measurable physical and chemical changes that may occur when seeds are subjected to desiccation, aging, long-term storage, or prolonged exposure to natural conditions. In particular, we use GC-MS, FT-IR, and DSC to examine lipid, carbohydrate, and protein fractions of seeds for deterioration over time. Current research also focuses on seed biology and biochemistry of Lindera melissifolia. Additionally, research will be expanded to include invasive species and longleaf pine.

Collaborative Research:

Seed storage and dormancy, biochemical evaluations of intact seed or pollen, reproductive biology of trees and shrubs, canopy and whole-tree physiology studies.
