Proportion of Land that is Timberland, 2002
Description
This map shows the spatial distribution of timberland in 2002 as a percentage of county land area. In this region, about 26 percent of the area (over 150 million acres) is classed as timberland.
Use this map only to identify broad spatial trends. At the time of assessment, data were not available for interior Alaska, the Pacific Basin, Puerto Rico, U.S. Virgin Islands, and a small number of counties in the lower 48 states

Definitions:
Timberland is defined as forest land capable of producing in excess of 20 cubic feet per acre per year and not legally withdrawn from timber production, with a minimum area classification of 1 acre.
