Willow Planting Completed for Garden Creek Stream Restoration Project

Workers planting willow along Garden Creek

The Garden Creek stream restoration in Nancy English Park in Casper neared completion with the installation of the soil bioengineering component on April 16, 2008.   Willows were planted with assistance from the City of Casper Parks and Street Department, Natrona County Conservation District, Wyoming Game and Fish Department, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, and the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS).  Margaret Teevens, City of Casper Infrastructure Maintenance Coordinator, provided for the planning and financing of the Garden Creek Stream Restoration.

The willow planting was completed in conjunction with a soil bioengineering workshop, which was held in Casper and instructed by Chris Hoag, NRCS Wetland Plant Ecologist, Plant Materials Center, Aberdeen, Idaho.

NRCS designed the structural and vegetative components for this partnership stream restoration project.  Designs were completed for numerous in-stream rock and log structures, woody plantings, and sod mats.

A project celebration is scheduled for June 21.
