Agriculture and Food Research Initiative - Soil Processes

Soil is a vital natural resource that not only sustains plant and animal productivity, but also has profound effects on the health and quality of the environment. As such, agriculturally-related sustainability hinges on the interactions among the biological, chemical, and physical properties and processes in this below-ground ecosystem. Research is needed to fill knowledge gaps regarding interactions of the many dynamic soil properties and processes affecting soil quality as it relates to agricultural sustainability and agroecosystem goods and services in order to better manage this critical resource. This program makes both single function research and education awards.
