Description: Econometric models of land use change were estimated for two physiographic regions in the South-Central United States. Results are consistent-with the economic hierarchy of land use, with population and personal income being significant explanatory variables. Findings regarding the importance of relative agricultural and forestry market-based incomes in influencing regional land use shifts suggest that farm programs play an important, but continually changing, role in land use change.

Keywords: econometric analysis, acreage, forest land
