Description: North Carolina's 31.2 million acres of land area support 1.7 billion tons of woody biomass. Of this total, 94 percent is on timberland, 3 percent on nonforest areas, and 3 percent on reserved timberland and woodland areas. Over the next two decades, more than 12.8 million tons of woody biomass could be harvested annually from timberland without adversely affecting timber supplies.
