CNS Grantee Workshop
A workshop to discuss the research of recently funded CNS grantees is scheduled for April 22-23, 2008, at the Grand Hyatt Hotel, in Washington, DC. The CNS grants program is a "testing ground" for new scientific or engineering approaches to sustainability. The CNS program enables citizens from all sectors - local governments, nonprofits and universities - to work together on practical projects for communities and states to achieve the economic and environmental benefits of green building and smart growth. Examples of CNS projects are tools to predict the impact of housing development on nearby lakes and streams, and methods for urban planners to build sustainability into land development and transportation in cities. EPA to Host Earth Day Meeting on Sustainability Projects
(Washington, D.C., - April 17, 2008) Scientists and engineers supported by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Collaborative Science and Technology Network for Sustainability (CNS) program are meeting April 22-23 at the Grand Hyatt Hotel and in EPA offices in Washington, D.C., to solicit input and share early progress on their projects. New Report Identifies Solutions for A Cleaner New York/New Jersey Harbor
(New York – April 03, 2008) The New York Academy of Sciences (NYAS) has issued a groundbreaking report summarizing pollution prevention (P2) strategies for five contaminants to the NY/NJ Harbor -- mercury (Hg), cadmium (Cd), polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), dioxins, and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs). "The Safe Harbor Report: Bringing People and Science Together to Improve the New York/New Jersey Harbor" is the result of seven years of Industrial Ecology research. [Read More]

EPA Awards The University of Tennessee $300k to Help Build Greener Pre-Fab Housing
EPA awarded the University of Tennessee a $295,970 grant to evaluate preferred materials to build environmentally sound modular and prefabricated housing and build a demonstration home. The University of Tennessee’s project was one of 10 selected under a competitive, nationwide application process that drew 141 submissions. (Read More)

BUSINESS PARK 2.0 - Can Sprawling Office Campuses Become Commute - Cutting Communities? - Saturday, May 27, 2006 - The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency obviously thinks the concept has value; it awarded Raney a grant last year to conduct a study on the Hacienda Business Park in Pleasanton titled "Transforming Office Parks Into Transit Villages." The list of study partners is a who's who of serious regional players: Oracle, BART, the Metropolitan Transit Commission, the City of Pleasanton and a number of other organizations.

EPA Launches New Grants Program for Collaborative Environmental Decision Making(Washington, D.C. – May 18, 2005) Today EPA announced about $2.5 million in grant awards to 10 universities, cities and non-profit organizations as part of a new grants program to help protect people and the planet and to sustain economic growth.
