Welcome to the University of Kentucky (UK) Rural Studies program, formerly the TVA Rural Studies program, located on the Campus of the University of Kentucky in the Department of Agricultural Economics, the UK Rural Studies Program conducts research into the economic opportunities and problems of rural areas. The Rural Studies program was created to help stimulate rural development research that was applicable to residents of the rural south. The competitive contract program has been one of our main mechanisms for accomplishing this goal. Over the last four years the projects we have funded have added a great deal of new information on what is important for rural places. Much of the research has been presented at professional meetings and is now making its way into scientific journals, both of which suggest the projects have met with peer recognition. A number of projects have used their initial results to successfully apply for larger amounts of funds form other agencies which will provide a better research base in the future. | |
