31st Annual NCOS Orchid Auction

CALLING ALL ORCHID LOVERS!!

Grab a friend interested in orchids and join the National Capital Orchid Society in the fun.  Preview from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM.  This live auction will offer up to 400 blooming or near blooming size orchids, from well-known growers coast to coast, Hawaii and private collections.  Lots of very rare and unusual orchids.  This is one of the largest Orchid Auctions in the country.

Multiplying Plants – Pieces of Green Spring

9:30-11:30am. Take cuttings from Green Spring’s plants, by following simple techniques demonstrated by Nancy Olney, staff horticulturalist, and take these ‘starters’ home. 1:30-3pm. Every garden should have at least one ornamental vine. Learn about an amazing array of vines suited to a wide variety of growing conditions in all colors of the rainbow. Dan Long, proprietor of Brushwood Nursery in Pennsylvania, specializes in vines and climbers, and is the instructor of the Ornamental Vines Certificate Course at Longwood Gardens. 1:30-2:30pm. Green Spring’s Master Gardeners share gardening tips on vegetable gardening, dazzle you with time-saving techniques, clarify simple steps and debunk horticulture myths.  $12/session. .

1:30-3pm. With many evergreens to choose from and so little space in the garden; which ones do you choose? Richard Bitner, writer, author and instructor at Longwood Gardens introduces various genera of conifers, discusses using them in garden design, integrating them into borders and highlights the best cultivars for the area. April 17- 18, 2009

The spring plant sale that AHS hosts annually at its River Farm headquarters in Alexandria, VA, is being expanded this year as the Spring Garden Market

   Visit River Farm for the customary offerings of native plants, perennials, herbs, vegetables, annuals and roses.   ALSO offered are additional vendors selling garden supplies, garden art and other related products.

   The AHS will be selling Flower Carpet
® Amber roses, a new disease-resistant groundcover variety, along with memberships, books and garden accessories.
