The GBIF network faces challenges in trying to resolve scientific names to authority files for a number of reasons that range from outright misspellings to gaps in nomenclatural coverage. Fishes are well treated from a nomenclatural standpoint and make a good use-case for this evaluation. A number of complementary processes will be used for this evaluation and will be summarised in a report that will be used to develop better practices in resolving the vast array of scientific names inherent in the worlds biodiversity data.
