VFA Mission
We promote stewardship and wise use of the Commonwealth’s
forest resources for the economic and environmental benefits
of all Virginians.
Our membership consists of forest landowners, forest product
businesses, forestry professionals, and a variety of
individuals and groups who are concerned about the future and
well being of Virginia’s forest resources.
Goals
- Maintain a political and
economic climate favorable for forest ownership and forest
industry in Virginia.
- Enhance the public’s
perception of forestry in Virginia through effective
outreach and communications.
- Increase and retain VFA
membership and active participation through effective
leadership and programs.
- Increase pertinent
information transfer to members through effective internal
communication networks.
- Promote sustainable
forestry.
Membership Benefits and Services
Representation of forestry interests before the Virginia
General Assembly, U.S. Congress, and local governments.
Action groups addressing such current topics as the
silvicultural water quality law, timber theft, woodlands
security, forest products trucking, and private property
rights.
Subscription to VFA's highly acclaimed quarterly magazine,
Virginia Forests, and its annual directory of all 1,300
members, state and federal elected officials, and other
important contacts.
VFA's Annual Convention, with seminars and programs on topics
that affect forests and landowners, also provides
opportunities to meet other people with similar interests and
concerns.
Support of the Sustainable Forestry Initiative(r), to help
companies, loggers, and landowners improve forestry practices.
VFA-sponsored teacher and youth educational activities
including Project Learning Tree and Virginia Forests Forever
CD-ROM.
Co-Sponsorship of the Virginia Tree Farm Program.
Support of the Virginia Forestry Educational Foundation.
Opportunities to participate in insurance programs for
healthcare, timberland and hunting lease liability, and
standing timber.
Representation on numerous state agency, natural resource
committees and task forces.
Membership provides an opportunity for you to participate in
the support of forestry in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
