U.S. Marshal Deals with Diplomacy...on
January 26, 1825, when U.S. Marshal Tench Ringgold of the District of Columbia,
informed the Secretary of State of disorderly conduct by a coachman toward a
Mexican minister. Immunity laws required marshals to deal with any misbehavior
by or against foreign diplomats.
From Territory to District...on January 29, 1861, when
Kansas was admitted as a state. The Territory of Kansas was created almost
seven years earlier. U.S. Marshal James L. McDowell was the original appointment
for the new district, confirmed on March 23, 1861. |
