After its great success in the Notre Dame de Paris, UNESCO Hall, and the Vatican Hall Auditorium, the famous Choir from the ancient Russian Sretensky Monastery comes to America for the first time. The choir will present a program of Byzantine and Russian chants, folk songs, and Russian romances.

Rare glimpses of a classic in the making: a special 50th anniversary concert based on Leonard Bernstein’s manuscripts--early sketches and cut numbers, variant lyrics, and readings from papers in the Library’s Leonard Bernstein Collection. Presented in cooperation with Signature Theatre (Arlington, Virginia), the concert is directed by Signature’s Artistic Director, Eric Schaeffer. Musical director and pianist is Jon Kalbfleisch.

The Parker String Quartet opens the program with György Kurtág’s Six Moments Musicaux, op. 44, commissioned for the Bordeaux International String Quartet Competition which it won in 2005. The Borromeo Quartet will perform Bela Bartok's String Quartet No. 6 (1939). To close the evening, two members of the Parker join the Borromeo in Tchaikovsky’s Souvenir de Florence.
