Summary: |
The Carnegie Ceilidh was founded in 1961 by Howard T. Glasser in Pittsburgh and was known as the Carnegie Ceilidh Folk Music Society. Later programs, featuring Pete Seeger, Doc Watson, Norman Kennedy, and others, were sponsored by the Carnegie Ceilidh of Carnegie Institute of Technology, or just Carnegie Ceilidh. Some programs were presented in conjunction with the Pittsburgh Folklore Society, which Glasser served as program director (1966-1968). In 1969 Glasser began teaching graphic arts at the University of Rhode Island in Kingston, and founded the Kingston Ceilidh Folk Music Workshop there. The collection consists of program flyers, tickets, posters designed by Glasser, a printed excerpt from a diary kept by Glasser during a trip to Scotland in 1960 titled "& on for a time in Ullapool," and newspaper clippings.
