MPO 2005 Briefing Booklet for
RPC Certification Review

An overview of RPC’s transportation functions and responsibilities as MPO for the New Orleans urbanized area.

This report summarizes our efforts to build a collaborative stakeholder-driven process to carry out the spirit of TEA-21* and the requirements of the Metropolitan Planning Regulations.

This booklet describes RPC’s on-going work activities in transit, land use and transportation integration, community outreach and public involvement activities, Title VI compliance and environmental justice considerations, regional air-quality status, multi-modal freight transportation planning, and applications of Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) and congestion management system technologies in the New Orleans region.

*NOTE: The Transportation Equity Act for the 21st Century (TEA-21) has since been replaced by the Safe, Accountable, Flexible, Efficient Transportation Equity Act: A Legacy for Users (SAFETEA-LU).
