About the Regional Planning Commission About RPC Web Site Content RPC Web Site Links The Regional Planning Commission for Jefferson, Orleans, Plaquemines, St. Bernard and St. Tammany Parishes, is a 26-member board of local elected officials and citizen members, appointed to represent the citizenry on regional issues. The RPC is one of eight regional planning agencies in Louisiana, created in 1962 by the state legislature to fulfill federal and state requirements for regional comprehensive and economic development planning. Map of Planning Districts and Links to their Web sites As mandated by its enabling legislation, the RPC is the legal entity whose mission is to promote the general welfare and prosperity of the entire region by harmonizing the activities of federal, state, parish, municipal and other governmental agencies in the region.
An overview of RPC’s transportation functions and responsibilities as MPO for the New Orleans urbanized area. This report summarizes our efforts to build a collaborative stakeholder-driven process to carry out the spirit of TEA-21* and the requirements of the Metropolitan Planning Regulations. This booklet describes RPC’s on-going work activities in transit, land use and transportation integration, community outreach and public involvement activities, Title VI compliance and environmental justice considerations, regional air-quality status, multi-modal freight transportation planning, and applications of Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) and congestion management system technologies in the New Orleans region. *NOTE: The Transportation Equity Act for the 21st Century (TEA-21) has since been replaced by the Safe, Accountable, Flexible, Efficient Transportation Equity Act: A Legacy for Users (SAFETEA-LU).
