instrumentals, sermons, songs, and stories recorded in Kentucky, Ohio,
and South Carolina by John A. and Ruby T. Lomax, June-July 1937.
AFS 1001-1009: Nine discs containing songs with commentary,
sung and spoken by Captain Pearl R. Nye. Recorded in Akron, Ohio, by
John A. Lomax, June 26-28, 1937. The collection shares with AFS 1603-1615
five linear inches of correspondence, notes, and textual transcriptions;
seven photos; and one reel of microfilm (MUSIC-12) containing photos
and transcriptions. Portions of this collection, and of AFS 1603-1615,
have been published by the Library of Congress on recording number AFS

AFS 1603-1615: Thirteen 12-inch discs of songs sung by Captain

correspondence, notes, and textual transcriptions; seven photos; and one

AFS 1689-1767: Seventy-nine 12-inch discs of instrumentals and

and programs.

performed on banjo, fiddle, and guitar by Ward Jarvis, originally of
Braxton County, West Virginia, with Dan (Danlovich) Dagget and John Hutchison.

AFS 17,502: One 10-inch tape of a concert performed by Pete Seeger
of Beacon, New York. Recorded at Oberlin College, Oberlin, Ohio, by Stephen

AFS 18,053-18,058: Six 10-inch tapes of primarily Yiddish songs

John McCutcheon, 1975-76. The collection includes fifty-one pages of notes.
AFS 19,130: One tape containing instrumentals and stories played
on the melodeon and spoken by Michael J. Kennedy, recorded in Cincinnati,

AFS 19,161-19,178: Eighteen 10-inch tapes of Lithuanian songs
with commentary recorded in Connecticut, Illinois, Indiana, Maryland, Massachusetts,
Michigan, Ohio, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Washington,
D.C., and Wisconsin by Jonas Balys, 1949-59. Portions of this collection
are also contained on AFS 10,751, 10,874, and 18,805.
The collection includes seven linear inches of fieldnotes and two monographs.

AFS 19,257: One 7-inch tape of an interview and demonstrations
of spoon playing by Joe "Mr. Spoons" Jones. Recorded by Cal Kowal
in Cincinnati, Ohio, 1975. The collection includes twenty-six pages of
articles, correspondence, and lists as well as A Book Full of Spoons by
Cal Kowal, which includes a 45-rpm disc of spoon playing by Mr. Jones.

AFS 19,386: One 10-inch tape of instrumentals and stories performed
on banjo and fiddle and spoken by Ward Jarvis. Recorded in Stewart, Ohio,

AFS 21,951-21,956: Six 10-inch tapes of instrumentals and songs
played and sung by Guy Blakeman (fiddle), Wally Bollinger (banjo), "Pigmeat" Jarrett
(piano), Phil McGing (melodeon), Vince Sawma (oud), and The Liberty Cornet
Band. Recorded in the Cincinnati area by Malcolm Dalglish and Grey Larsen
for the "Traditional Music and the Elderly Project," 1978. Portions
of the collection have been published on June Appal LP 36142 Snow on
the Roof, Fire in the Furnace (1979). The collection includes one linear

AFS 22,063-22,067: Five 10-inch tapes of instrumentals and interviews
performed on banjo and fiddle and spoken by Ward Jarvis of Braxton County,
West Virginia. Recorded in Stewart, Ohio, by David A. Brose, December 12,
1978 June 26, 1979. The collection includes twenty-four pages of logs.

recorded in Cleveland and Shaker Heights, Ohio, by Stephen Erdely, 1961-65.
The collection includes one-half linear inch of correspondence, lists,

AFS 22,608: One cassette of a lullaby with commentary sung and
spoken by Louisa Butler of Detroit, Michigan. The commentary includes an
explanation of how Butler learned the lullaby from her aunt, Grace Evans
of Waynesville, Ohio. Recorded by Alan Lomax, February 27, 1978. The collection

AFS 23,019-23,155: Eighteen 7-inch tapes, two 5-inch tapes, and
one hundred seventeen cassettes of ethnic radio broadcasts recorded for
the Ethnic Broadcasting in America Project of the American Folklife Center.
Recorded mostly off the air by Elena Bradunas, Theodore Grame, Alan Jabbour,
and others at various locations in the United States, 1977-78. Documentation
includes Theodore Grame's Ethnic Broadcasting in the United States (Washington,
D.C.: American Folklife Center, 1980; PN1991.8.E84G7) and nine linear inches
of manuscript materials.

Ten pages of notes containing information about Kennedy Jones of Cincinnati,
Ohio, who is regarded as an innovator of the thumbpick style of guitar
playing.
AFC 1996/003: One hundred three 7-inch tapes, twenty-two 5-inch
tapes, two 4-inch tapes, and thirteen 3-inch tapes of instrumentals, interviews,
songs, and stories, recorded primarily in Ohio by Anne Grimes, 1953-92.
The collection includes one hundred eighty-five articles, eighty-three
other ephemeral publications, nine-hundred fifty-five pages of manuscripts,
one hundred two photos, and three videocassettes. Portions of the tapes
are included on AFS 11,443-11,458 (LWO 2627). (Seventy-five hours)
AFC 1996/061: One cassette of Italian songs sung by Vincenza Montecalvo,
recorded in 1959. Donated by her son Dominic Montecalvo of Ravenna, Ohio.
The collection includes eleven pages of notes and a photo of the singer.

Zinios (Our Steps: Weekly Lithuanian News) (1981-84), and one issue
of Biuletenis: Dievo Motinos Nuolatin s Pagalbos Parapija (Bulletin:
Parish of Our Lady of Perpetual Help) (October 16, 1983), both published
by a Lithuanian parish in Cleveland, Ohio. The collection includes one
