January 28: ASCO Urges Lawmakers to Exclude Prompt Pay Discounts from ASP; Oncology Added to Draft CCHIT Roadmap; Chemotherapy Administration Safety Standards Are Available for Public Comment 

ASCO along with others in the cancer community sent a letter to Congressional leadership urging them to include legislative language in the economic stimulus package that would exclude prompt pay discounts from the ASP methodology for Medicare Part B drugs. Also, in response to an application from ASCO, the Certification Commission for Healthcare Information Technology issued a call for public comment on a roadmap for expansion of its HIT certification programs, including new oncology programs.

ASCO Highlights Cancer Prevention Initiatives In Advance of National Cancer Prevention Month 

Alexandria, Va. –National Cancer Prevention Month kicks off February 1, and the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) is highlighting the oncologist’s role in cancer prevention and in assessing a person’s risk of getting cancer in a new policy statement published in the Journal of Clinical Oncology (JCO) this month.

 

Study Shows Younger Women With Endometrial Cancer Can Safely Keep Ovaries, Avoid Early Menopause 

In this New Digest you will find a summary of a study published online January 26, 2009 in the Journal of Clinical Oncology, showing no survival difference between premenopausal women with early-stage endometrial cancer whose ovaries were left intact during cancer surgery compared with those whose ovaries were surgically removed.
