This Monk/Coltrane album was No. 2 on the Billboard jazz charts in mid-October and ranked an amazing 11-day run as No. 1 on Amazon.com's album best-seller list when it was released. One of the few recordings of the two jazz legends together in a live performance, this one is big news. It features jazz pianist and composer Thelonious Monk and legendary saxophonist John Coltrane. In 2004, the Library's Recording Lab Supervisor Larry Appelbaum uncovered the concert tape in a 1957 Voice of America recording while reviewing materials to be digitized for preservation. The Carnegie Hall concert, now released on CD, offers a historic live performance not previously available to the public. The Library holds the nation's largest public collection of sound recordings (music and spoken word) and radio broadcasts. "Thelonious Monk Quartet with John Coltrane at Carnegie Hall" includes: Monk's Mood; Evidence; Crepuscule with Nellie; Nutty; Epistrophy; Bye-ya; Sweet and Lovely; Blue Monk; Epistrophy (incomplete) Price: $17.00 Availability: Usually ships in 3-5 business days Product #: 21202001 |
