Six advertising labels for "Lost Cause" Pearline, a product manufactured by Barnum & Starbird of Louisville, Kentucky. It is not clear what the product is that the six Confederate leaders are seeming to endorse. Advertising was beginning many of the practices, such as celebrity endorsements, that we see today. There was a Pearline Soap Company in existence after the Civil War, but it is not likely that these gentlemen would be voluntarily endorsing such a product. The men are: G.T. Beauregard : Led the Confederate attack on Fort Sumpter. 1818-1893 Robert E. Lee : General of the Army of Northern Virginia. 1807-1870 Jefferson Davis : President of the Confederacy. 1808-1869 John H. Morgan : Led "Morgan's Raiders." 1825-1864 Joseph Eggleston Johnston : Was in command at the Battle of Bull Run. 1807-1891 Stonewall Jackson : Corp Commander, Army of Northern Virginia. 1824-1863 Medium : 6 photographic prints on engraved labels Created/Published : Between 1860 and 1880 Creator : Not attributed Housed in the Prints and Photographs Division of the Library of Congress Availability: Usually ships in one week Product #: cph3g06501 |
