Library in the News, 4/30/07
Posted on: April 30th, 2007 by Matt Raymond
A few AP photos are starting to move from the event that ended barely an hour ago, in which German Chancellor Angela Merkel formally transferred the 1507 Waldseemller Map to the Library of Congress and the American people (represented by House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer).
You can see them here, here, here, here, here and here, for starters.
The AP story itself can be found here (via the WashingtonPost.com).
Heres a related English-language article from Germanys Spiegel.
Ill post more news links as I find them
UPDATE:
The webcast is now up. (RealMedia streaming file, 36:59)

We’ve picked up on the story over here in Germany at the Atlantic Review blog. The 1507 Waldseemüller map of the world is a great gift to the LoC and the American people, but we are having a bit of debate over its authenticity. Did Martin Waldseemüller denote the continents and other geographical features on his map in Alt Deutsch (Old German) or in Latin?
See the Atlantic Review posts on April 28th and May 1st for our comments about this acquisition.

P.S. I think that it is great the the U.S. Library of Congress has started a blog. Good luck!

I do wish you would have a downloadable file as well as the streaming version. I could listen to so much more, it I could listen in the car or while exerciseing. With the Real media I’m tied to the computer on my desk.
