ABC News teams up with UF

When John Green, ABC News’ executive producer for special programming and development, called to see if we’d be interested in a student-run bureau, we needed little time to decide. Realizing it was the right thing at the right time, we said yes, right away.
This fall semester, we became one of five ABC News On Campus [...]

‘Gator Watch’ to promote game-day safety

Over breakfast earlier this year, Lisa Gearan, wife of one of University of Florida’s top orthopedic surgeons, shared a compelling story that spurred me to join her, Shands HealthCare and Student Government in a new campaign we hope will save the lives of students.
One weekend recently, Lisa’s husband Peter spent a grueling 36 hours in [...]

Biology and chemistry are interesting disciplines, yet many high school students are unaware of the potential they have in making an impact on the discovery and development of new medicines, and the many career possibilities.
The availability of high school and college curricula that contain topics such as drug manufacturing, quality control and assurance, and regulatory [...]

Malaria and more studied at EPI

The distance between Florida and far-off places is shrinking as global trade and travel import more products and people to our state from across the world. As another fall semester approaches, I want to take a moment to thank all of you for your fortitude during the past year. It was a period that tested us as educators, forcing us to make some difficult choices about how to [...]

Winning the lottery

One of the most inspiring stories I have heard in a long time relates to the priceless value of education and how this can affect alumni, and the loyalty they feel for their alma mater and others whose lives they touch.
This story is at the heart of the largest gift the College of Veterinary Medicine [...]

Emerging Pathogens breaks ground

Recently, the University of Florida broke ground on the Pathogens Research Facility, a state-of-the-art laboratory that will serve as home to UF’s Emerging Pathogens Institute.
This new building is the physical manifestation of an initiative President Bernie Machen began pursuing about two years ago, but which has roots in the university that go much deeper.
UF has [...]
