Office of the Chief of Staff for the Immediate Office of the Director
The Office of the Chief of Staff for the Immediate Office of the Director manages and directs executive-level activities and functions, and sets priorities for all tasks within the Immediate Office of the Director (IOD). The Office manages critical points of contact and related information flows to resolve and respond to external inquiries. Inquiries include trans-NIAID and trans-NIH national, international, and translational research issues involving HIV/AIDS, emerging infectious diseases including pandemic influenza, Biodefense research efforts and initiatives, and other unexpected program-related events.
Responsbilities of this office include:
- Representing NIAID in international research diplomatic matters
- Addressing the political and cultural implications of current research and the initiation or expansion of research in specific areas by coordinating communications with outside organizations
- Bringing the perspective of the Director, NIAID, to the development of program goals for the Institute
- Advising and assisting the Director, NIAID, the three Deputy Directors, and other key officials on all aspects of the mission, activities, and functions of the IOD
- Overseeing the effective and efficient planning and coordination of executive operations within the IOD
