As a member of the
United States Congress I have the privilege each year to submit
military academy nominations. Each member is permitted to nominate
10 outstanding individuals for each academy: the U.S. Military Academy
at West Point, the U.S. Naval Academy, the U.S. Air Force Academy
and the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy. Although students apply directly
to these service academies, to be accepted they must also be nominated
by a Member of Congress, Senator or other authorized person or entity.
After a congressional
nomination is made, its then up to the individual academies
to make their final decision. They look for outstanding, well-rounded
individuals. Academic qualifications, test scores and leadership
abilities are all weighed.
Applicants must be
at least 17 years old, but not have passed their 23rd birthday,
must be United States citizens (in some cases international students
may apply through their home countries), unmarried, not pregnant,
and have no legal obligation to support children or other dependants.
If you are interested, you should begin preparing as soon as possible.
Please contact
one of our offices for further information on the application
process.
