Clarification and Additional Information to HG-07-030 and HG-07-031

Notice Number: NOT-HG-07-007

Key Dates
Release Date: January 18, 2007

Issued by
National Human Genome Research Institute (NHGRI) (http://www.nhgri.nih.gov)

On November 17, 2006, the National Human Genome Research Institute (NHGRI) issued a Request for Applications entitled, RFA-HG-07-030 “Creating the Encyclopedia of DNA Elements (ENCODE) in the Human Genome (U01 and U54)” and a related RFA entitled, RFA-HG-07-031 “A Data Coordination Center for the Encyclopedia of DNA Elements (ENCODE) Project (U41).”   This Notice is to clarify one statement made in RFA-HG-07-030 and to provide additional information for both RFAs.

Point of Clarification for RFA-HG-07-030:

In the Research Scope, the RFA states that the “generation of a large set of antibodies to DNA binding proteins for e.g., ChIP-chip studies, although valuable, will be considered outside of the scope of this project.  NHGRI is considering other means to support such an effort.”  CLARIFICATION:  Applicants can propose to generate antibodies needed to support experiments described in the application.  NHGRI will not support applications with the primary goal of developing antibody reagents for the ENCODE Project.  As NHGRI’s plans for generating antibody reagents are developed, it may become necessary to work with funded groups to ensure that there is no redundancy of antibody generation.

Additional Information for RFAs HG-07-030 and HG-07-031:

1)  Applicants may request travel funds to attend an ENCODE Consortium meeting each year, typically held in the Bethesda, Maryland area.

2)  An Applicant Information Meeting was held on December 18, 2006.  PowerPoint slides from the meeting can be found at http://www.genome.gov/Pages/Research/ENCODE/HG-07-030ApplicantInfoMtg.pdf and http://www.genome.gov/Pages/Research/ENCODE/HG-07-031ApplicantInfoMtg.pdf.

3)  It is anticipated that an ENCODE Consortium meeting will be held on November 28-29, 2007 in the Bethesda, Maryland area following the funding of the ENCODE grants in September 2007.  This meeting will be open to successful applicants only.
