Evaluation and Research Manager, National Coalition Institute

General Responsibilities:
The Evaluation and Research Manager will assist the department’s Deputy Director in the mission of advancing coalition evaluation and research to improve coalition effectiveness. This employee will also assist in the translation of research findings into materials that the field can effectively utilize in their pursuits.

Specific Duties: The Evaluation and Research Manager will be required, among other tasks, to:
  • Provide evaluation and research assistance to the coalition field, such as technical assistance on finding and using appropriate assessment and evaluation tools, developing evaluation plans and using data for planning
  • Prepare regular updates for the coalition field on research that is relevant to community-based work on substance abuse and related issues
  • Manage internal evaluation projects, including process evaluations of CADCA trainings, tracking and reporting progress on training targets, and assisting other departments and teams with their evaluation needs
  • Support Institute evaluation projects, such as developing evaluation tools, recruiting participants, data entry, analysis and reporting
Required Experience, Skills, Training or Credentials: The Evaluation and Research Manager must have knowledge and experience in community-based evaluation and research efforts, ideally with a strong background in community coalitions. He or she has demonstrated competencies in the above areas. In addition, the ideal candidate will possess:
  • Current working knowledge in coalition evaluation and research
  • Knowledge of theory, concepts, and practical application of the substance abuse and treatment theoretical base
  • Quantitative and qualitative evaluation/research skills
  • Expertise using statistical tools, including SPSS
  • Ability to think and write critically and analyze complex problems with multiple possible outcomes
  • Customer-service orientation and ability to work harmoniously with a diverse group of stakeholders
  • Ability to work under deadline pressure and extra hours if needed on assignment
  • Demonstrated ability to self-motivate, initiate project activities, and manage multiple assignments simultaneously
  • Extensive computer skills
  • Bachelor’s degree required (Master’s degree preferred) in social or behavioral sciences of related field
  • At least five years of substantive experience in community health and promotion
Supervisory relationship: Direct supervisor, Deputy Director, Evaluation and Research Office, National Community Anti-Drug Coalition Institute; has no direct supervisory responsibility.

Salary range:

Hours per day or week: 40 hours a week

Amount of travel (and any other special conditions or requirements): 10%-15% a month




Technical Assistance Manager, National Community Anti-Drug Coalition Institute

General Responsibilities: The Technical Assistance Manager will assist the department’s Deputy Director in his or her mission of facilitating intensive, comprehensive technical assistance to coalition leaders and coalition teams, with particular emphasis on Drug-Free Community grantees and increasingly with Weed and Seed Communities.

Specific Duties: The Technical Assistance Manager will be required, among other tasks, to:
  • Intake and assess all incoming technical assistance referrals
  • Triage technical assistance requests for resolution purposes within the Institute (if necessary)
  • Deliver technical assistance to coalitions and follow-up as required
  • Resolve all technical assistance requests within the database
  • Assist in development of technical assistance resources and materials
  • Identify distribution mechanisms for Institute/CADCA technical assistance products
  • Outreach to coalitions to determine technical assistance needs
  • Provide monthly reports of technical assistance activities
  • Maintain the technical assistance data base and make adjustments as necessary to meet data collection needs
  • Conduct on-site training as needed
  • Assist with publication dissemination as needed
Required Experience, Skills, Training or Credentials: The Technical Assistance Manager must be an experienced substance abuse prevention professional who has demonstrated competencies in the above areas. The ideal candidate will possess:
  • Knowledge of theory, concepts, and practical application of effective substance abuse prevention strategies.
  • Understanding of community development principles and their impact on community coalitions.
  • Experience in managing a substance abuse prevention or related coalition.
  • Knowledge of substance abuse prevention-treatment-aftercare continuum.
  • Understanding of human development principles and techniques and their application.
  • Superior analytical skills, plus demonstrated skills to handle multiple assignments simultaneously.
  • Superior report writing skills.
  • Ability to work under deadline pressure and extra hours if needed on assignment.
  • Bachelor’s degree required (Master’s degree preferred) in health related field.
  • At least five years of substantive experience in the alcohol, tobacco, and other drug prevention field.
Supervisory relationship: Direct supervisor, Deputy Director, Training and Technical Assistance, National Community Anti-Drug Coalition Institute; no direct supervisory responsibility.

Salary range:

Hours per day or week: 40 hours a week.

Amount of travel (and any other special conditions or requirements): 10% annually
