This paper briefly outlines the psycho-social needs of parents and PLWHA based on the experience of HIV/AIDS social workers both in the hospital and community setting of Central Sydney and substantiated by the literature. Social work interviews identified enormous information and support needs and foremost highlighted the isolation of individual family members or family units. This paper describes a 6 week closed group program. The model combined structured information using a multidisciplinary approach with supportive client centred discussion. It was co-facilitated by HIV/AIDS social workers. The model of the group is described and the outcomes discussed with specific relevance to recommendations for future research and further service provision.
