The Mission of the Office of International Activities (OIA) at NINDS is to identify significant global health issues, to seek
opportunities, and to develop creative approaches promoting international research, training, and collaborations in neuroscience
that are relevant to the Institute's mission.

To achieve the mission, the Office directs and coordinates the Institute's international activities in the following areas:
- Activities related to the Office of the Director (OD)
- Assisting the NINDS Director in responses to inquires from the White House, the Congress, the Department of State, DHHS and
NIH on NINDS international activities; preparing periodic reports of NINDS international activities to FIC
- Coordinating international activities with other NIH ICs, other domestic and foreign government agencies (e.g., NSF) and non-governmental
organizations (e.g., SfN, NAS, IBRO, HFSP, WHO)
- Coordinating bilateral activities under agreements between the US and other countries; arranging visits of foreign delegations
and organizations to the NINDS
- Activities related to the Division of Extramural Research (DER)
- Working under the leadership of FIC to establish a Trans-NIH International Neuroscience Working Group to develop joint-initiatives
to promote international neuroscience collaborations, training and capacity building through grants, short-term travel supplements,
and international conferences
- Coordinating international-related grant reviews for NINDS, FIC and other governmental agencies and non-governmental organizations
- Providing information on funding and collaboration opportunities and grantsmanship training to foreign scientists, especially
junior scientist from lower- and middle-income countries, prior their returns to home countries
