The Francis Crick Papers

Title:
"A Structure for DNA" (draft) pdf (399,703 Bytes) ocr (202 Bytes)
Description:
A draft of Watson's and Crick's seminal article on the structure of Deoxyribonucleic acid, which appeared in the April 25, 1953, issue of Nature. Note Watson's and Crick's oblique mention of "much unpublished experimental material" on DNA structure related to the authors by Maurice Wilkins through by "personal communication," namely, the crystallographic X-ray images of DNA fibers produced by Rosalind Franklin at King's College, London, which Watson and Crick drew upon without her knowledge. In this draft they credited Wilkins by name but group Franklin with others of his unnamed "co-workers," although in the published version her name appeared alongside that of Wilkins.
