Leica AS/LMD®

Laser Microdissection

The following equipment and supplies are available for use by NIEHS scientists in conducting their research. The equipment and supply capabilities are listed for easy reference.

In December of 2002, NIEHS purchased a Leica Microsystems(http://www.leica-microsystems.com/) Exit NIEHS Website AS/LMD® instrument with fluorescent capabilities. Frozen tissue samples are sectioned onto a PEN foil membrane, mounted to a glass slide. This instrument employs a UV laser (337nm) that cuts the PEN foil around targeted cells. Once cut, the cells are collected in a designated tube cap held under the motorized microscope stage. Up to four tubes may be used per microdissection.
