Bibliographic Records Accessible on the Web

NLM bibliographic records for serials, monographs, audiovisuals, computer software, electronic resources and other materials are available online via World Wide Web access via NLM's online catalogs as follows:

  • NLM LocatorPlus, NLM's Web-based online public access catalog.

NLM LocatorPlus integrates in one file NLM records for all materials (print, non-print, electronic resources, etc.), regardless of format. NLM LocatorPlus provides access to holdings, availability, authority headings, MARC 21 data, and more.

NLM LocatorPlus includes records in certain subject areas, such as health services research, space life sciences, bioethics, or family planning/populations research created cooperatively with other libraries that are part of the National Network of Libraries of Medicine®, or organizations that have or have had cooperative agreement with NLM to create LocatorPlus bibliographic records.

NLM LocatorPlus contains records for a mixture of cataloged and uncataloged materials. Users may identify records for cataloged titles in NLM LocatorPlus by clicking on the MARC VIEW tab and examining the MARC 21 record. NLM identifies cataloged records by adding the value "AUTH" in an NLM locally-defined field MARC 21 field 999. Records which contain this identifier are distributed to licensees of NLM MARC 21 products.

  • NLM Catalog, a Entrez-based interface to NLM bibliographic records.

The NLM Catalog provides an alternate access to NLM bibliographic data for journals, books, audiovisuals, computer software, electronic resources and other materials. Links to the library's holdings and item availability in LocatorPlus, NLM's online public access catalog, are also provided.

For further details, about the differences between these two Web catalogs, please see the FAQ "What is the difference between the NLM Catalog and LocatorPlus?" at http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/query/static/nlmcat_faq.html#diffcatlocatfaq".
