The National Library of Medicine supports research training in biomedical informatics at 18 educational institutions in the United States. These programs offer graduate education and postdoctoral research experiences in a wide range of areas including: health care informatics, bioinformatics and computational biology, clinical research translational informatics, and public health informatics. Many programs also offer additional tracks in areas such as imaging, dental, and library informatics. The organizations funded to do this training are responsible for the selection of trainees; questions about eligibility, program specifics, and levels of support should be addressed to the programs themselves. The location and contact information are provided below. Each NLM informatics research training program makes special efforts to recruit individuals from underrepresented racial and ethnic groups, individuals with disabilities, and those from economically, socially, culturally or educationally disadvantaged backgrounds, into careers in biomedical informatics. In addition to full-length pre-doctoral and post-doctoral appointments, many of NLM's training programs offer special short-term (3 month) training appointments that are available only to individuals from these groups. For further details, please contact the individual training program.
