Dear Dr. Koop:

We have received a sample of the posters that were produced in
the Healthy Mothers, Healthy Babies Program.

I am at a loss to determine for what segment of the pregnant
population these posters were designed.  Obviously the lower
socioeconomic women cannot relate to pregnant women in expensive :
gowns, standing alongside English style rattan prams, or babies
in birds' nests with veils, flowers and ribbons.

I also think that women who are sympathetic to the feminist
cause might even find these posters offensive.

In this day of scarce funds for health services, I wonder at the
wisdom of spending money on the production of these fantasy-lik,e
posters.
