Dear Chick,

Thank you for sending me a copy of your lecture as .the Luther Terry lecturer
at the COA meeting in Orlando, Florida.  I must apologize for not being present
at that time.  I had fully intended to attend the meeting and had paid all of my
registration fees for the meeting.  As the meeting time approached, I found
myself in a change of positions, moving my office , and several other personal
problems.  I am truly sorry to have missed your presentation.

I do appreciate your kind remarks relative to my period as Surgeon General. You
were most kind and I do appreciate your comments.

I think you handled this difficult subject of aging very well. Your remarks
embraced a great deal of thought on the subject , a real co&itment toward
understanding of the problem, and a rational approach to dealing with it.
