Dear Chick:

I want to congratulate you on the excellent Festschrift published
in your honor in the August issue of the JOURNAL OF PEDIALJXIC
SURGERY, and on the fine introductory tribute by Dr. Moritz M.
Zigler.  I have been away from New York for about three months and
thus could write you only now.  In fact, since I am unsure of your
Washington address, I am writing in care of the Children's Hospital
with the hope that they will forward the letter to you.

It goes without saying that your contributions are well &own to
the profession, but I think that of all the characteristics that
animate them, the most important is your qualities as a real human
being, who has always tried to help the patient to the best of your
abilities.  This kind of single-minded devotion is rare in this
world, and may God bless you for all you have done: not only to
improve the services of the medical profession in general, but
especially your contributions to changing' attitudes toward children
and child care.

Your appointment to Washington has warmed our hearts, and we know
that, as in the past, you will use thisqportunity to make even
more contributions in new capacities.
