The National Institutes issued a Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) entitled “Nanoscience and Nanotechnology in Biology and Medicine (R21)” on January 4, 2007 (http://grants.nih.gov/grants/guide/pa-files/PAR-07-271.html).

The purpose of this Notice is to clarify and make corrections to this FOA.

The type of projects that are acceptable under this FOA.  Exploratory/developmental grant support is for new projects only; competing renewal (formerly “competing continuation”) applications will not be accepted.  The original FOA incorrectly referred to Renewal applications in the Executive Summary.  However, renewal applications are not permitted for R21 grants.. 

Page Limit for Introduction in Resubmission.  A resubmission must include an “Introduction” (one page maximum) addressing the previous peer review critique (Summary Statement). The page limit for the Introduction section for Resubmissions was stated incorrectly in the Executive Summary.

This Notice is effective immediately.
