Dr. Haynes specializes in reproductive biology and embryonic development. As program director in the Division of Genetics and Developmental Biology at NIGMS, she manages a research program in developmental biology and developmental genetics, including studies on the basic biology of embryonic and adult stem cells.
Haynes began her career by studying the genetic control of early embryonic development in Drosophila (fruit flies) at the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development. She then shifted her focus to the role of Drosophila RNA binding proteins in the post-transcriptional regulation of egg and sperm development. Prior to joining NIGMS, she was a faculty member in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in Bethesda, MD.
