Along with Speaker of the House Dennis Hastert, then-Chairman of the U.S. House International Relations Committee Ben Gilman and Director of the United Nations Drug Control Policy Pino Arlacchi, Rep. Mica was honored to co-chair the International Summit on Drugs on February 8 and 9, 2000.

     This meeting brought together over 100 representatives of 23 nations who are working in drug treatment and prevention programs to plan a strategy to address our mounting illegal narcotics problems. 

     Through work conducted at the international summit, a cooperative international strategy was developed realizing that the illegal narcotics problems and solutions do not recognize political boundaries.

     Congressman Mica remains dedicated to working both in Congress and with the international community to alleviate the flow of drugs into our country.
