Daytona Beach Intermodal Transportation Facility
When Volusia County closed about a mile of beach in Daytona Beach’s core tourist area to driving in March 2000 visitors were not left in the lurch. A 1,500-space parking garage opened off State Road A1A near the Ocean Center the same day beach driving ended. Congressman Mica worked to secure $7.4 million in federal grant money for the intermodal transportation facility on the garage’s first floor. It serves as a main beachside stop for the Votran public bus system and the A1A Beachside Trolley system in Daytona Beach. Part of the federal money also paid for an eye-catching pedestrian overpass spanning the congested SR A1A for visitors’ safety.                                                                                                                                    In addition to providing beach access the facility accommodates those going to the stores, restaurants and movie theaters at Ocean Walk Village and events  at the historic Daytona Beach Bandshell. The garage is considered a keystone of a $200 million public-private redevelopment plan that includes the Ocean Walk Resort and expansions of the Adam’s Mark Hotel and Ocean Center.
