CONGRESSWOMAN SUSAN DAVIS STATEMENT ON HOMELAND SECURITY GRANT FUNDING FOR SAN DIEGO

WASHINGTON - Congresswoman Susan Davis released the following statement on the recent homeland security grants awarded to San Diego.  Under the Port Security Grant program, San Diego was awarded only $139,837 for FY2007 after receiving $6.4 million in FY2006.

"After recent reports of an increasing threat of terrorism, the Department of Homeland Security offers up a pittance for San Diego port security.

"It is difficult to comprehend how the Department of Homeland Security can reach the conclusion that San Diego deserves such a dramatic decrease in port security funding.

"After some initial meetings with DHS, it has become increasingly difficult to get DHS to commit to a follow up meeting.  I have attempted to ascertain the factors involved in the grant funding formulas.  I am disappointed that DHS has yet to shed light on this subject."
