CONGRESSWOMAN SUSAN DAVIS VOTES TO
PROTECT AMERICAN HORSES

WASHINGTON - The House of Representatives passed H.R. 503 banning the slaughter of American horses for the purpose of human consumption.  Congresswoman Susan Davis, a cosponsor of H.R. 503, voted for the bill.  Davis released the following statement on the passage of H.R. 503.

"I was proud to join with the majority of my colleagues in the House to end what is being called "America's Dirty Secret" and prevent the yearly slaughter of 70,000 to 100,000 horses.

"These majestic animals are part of the rich culture and history of our great nation.  They deserve a much better fate than being led to the slaughterhouse. My home state of California is one of many states that already prohibit this inhumane practice.  Now is the time to end this suffering throughout America.

"I urge the Senate to take up this critical piece of legislation and send it to the President for his consideration."
