CONGRESSWOMAN SUSAN DAVIS HONORED
FOR HER MILITARY ADVOCACY WORK

SD Chamber presents Military Affairs Advisory Council Award to Davis

San Diego - The San Diego Regional Chamber of Commerce honored Congresswoman Susan Davis for her leadership on military issues.  Davis and former Veterans Affairs Secretary and BRAC Chairman Anthony Principi were both presented with the Chamber's Military Affairs Advisory Council (MAAC) Award.

"It is a great honor and one that I will cherish," said Davis, a member of the House Armed Services Committee.  "The work that I do on behalf of our military is one of my favorite parts of this job.  Nothing is more fulfilling to me than advocating for our servicemembers and their families.  It makes me happy to stand up for local industry and the good jobs they bring to San Diego.  And I'm proud to fight for just compensation for our veterans."

In Congress, Davis has worked for pay equality between the military and private sector.  She restored free or reduced-cost school lunches for military families.  Davis has consistently secured federal funding for San Diego's defense projects.

Davis also served two years on the House Committee on Veterans Affairs where she raised the home loan guarantee for veterans.  She recently increased funding for a program that provides business assistance to veterans.

The award ceremony took place Friday at the 60th Annual Flag, General and Officer's Ball.

The Chamber has hosted the ball since 1946 when it began to acknowledge the efforts of those who served in World War II.  Today, it is meant to honor and acknowledge the leadership of today's military leaders in San Diego.
