WASHINGTON – This week Congressman Dennis Cardoza, D-Merced welcomed Miss Terra Bazan of Atwater, California to Washington, DC as the winner of the 18th District’s 2007 Congressional Art Competition.  Miss Bazan is a student at Buhach Colony High School and a member of the McSwain 4-H. Her winning submission was a photo entry entitled Valley Vineyard.

“The 18th district has some very talented artists and the level of competition gets better every year,” said Cardoza. “I look forward to seeing Terra’s work as I run back and forth to the Capitol Building.”

A panel of judges convened by Rep. Cardoza that included professional artists and gallery curators reviewed all submissions and determined the winner. The winning entry will be displayed for one year in the frequently used tunnel space between the U.S. Capitol and the Cannon House Office Building in Washington, D.C.  All non winning entries will hang in Congressman Cardoza’s district offices for a period of one year.

The impressive annual exhibit represents the combined efforts of Members of Congress, students, and teachers, who encourage their students to enter the competition. The winner from each Congressional District is invited to a Capitol Hill reception in July that highlights their accomplishments in conjunction with the hanging of their artwork.
