Identification of Therapeutic Targets

Based on the result of its genomic characterization and resequencing efforts, the TARGET Initiative will test the role of the potential targets in the cancer being studied by employing RNA interference (RNAi) to "knock out" the gene target and observe its effect on the cancer cell. Once a target has been shown to be promising, libraries of small molecules will be screened to identify ones that will affect the function of the protein encoded for by the gene target identified.

These technologies and the data they generate will help form the framework for subsequent efforts directed towards the development of targeted drug therapies to improve the treatment of acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) and neuroblastoma.
