Election Information for 2008/2009

Section elections must be completed by February 15, 2009.

On your voting slate you need to elect:

  1. A Potential Candidate for the MLA Nominating Committee.
  2. A member from your section to the MLA Membership Committee (if your section does not appoint this position).

Electronic Voting for Sections

The Board of Directors in 2005 approved revisions to the model bylaws for MLA chapters and sections. The revised model amends Article IV Section 3.C of the Model Bylaws for use by Sections to allow for electronic voting, with the following new wording:

“Ballots shall be distributed by the Nominating Committee and returned to a member of the Nominating Committee in time for the results to be declared on or before February 15.”

If your Section has not amended its bylaws, voting should be done by sending out the slate via email, with members returning the ballot by fax.

When the election results are finalized Section Chairs need to do the following:

  1. Notify Judy Burnham, Section Council Chair, regarding the election results for their Section by filling out the MLA Section Elections Result form.
  2. Send the name of the Section’s Program Chair for MLA ‘10 to the Section Council Liaison to the NPC 2010, Gale Dutcher.
  3. Make sure that your Potential Candidate for the MLA Nominating Committee completes the election information and background information form electronically and sends it to the Chair of the Section Council Elections Committee, Elizabeth LaRue, by February 15, 2009.

Potential Candidates for the MLA Nominating Committee

Section Council Representatives will be voting online for the Potential Candidates to the MLA Nominating Committee.

The nominees will be listed on the Section Council Web site. Section Council Representatives will gather input from their Section officers, and submit their vote to Elizabeth LaRue, Chair of the Section Council’s Election Committee, on or before Monday, April 7, 2009. There will be no extension to this deadline.
