Terms and Conditions for Membership in the Community of Genetic Educators (CoGE)

Every online community must have rules and guidelines of conduct for members in order to assure a safe and productive environment for interaction and collaboration of members. The Community of Genetic Educators’ (CoGE) guidelines are designed to assure all users that certain standards of conduct will be upheld on the CoGE for the benefit of all.

The rules for the Community of Genetic Educators (CoGE) are similar to those that should govern any social or work group, and those that govern other online communities like CoGE.  Some basic rules are listed below, however CoGE administration reserves the right to counteract any behavior that is disruptive, or malicious in nature:

  • Language/wording:  We expect all users to be civil and not use inappropriate terms or offensive language (e.g. profanity, racial slurs) when conversing or publishing material.
  • Publishing: We expect all users to only contribute or publish information that is theirs to contribute and to respect all copyright laws. CoGE has been designed to enable the exchange of information and knowledge between teachers and all posted information here is guided U.S. copyright restrictions.
  • Log-in and profiles:  All users are required to submit the information required in the profile to set-up an account and to make sure their email addresses are correct.
  • Soliciting:  No soliciting is allowed.
  • Inappropriate content: We reserve the right to remove/edit any user-generated submission of content.
  • Membership limits: CoGE reserves the right to terminate an individual’s membership if we feel the member is disruptive or in violation of stated or implied guidelines of membership.

We ask each member to keep these guidelines in mind as you use the CoGE. Violation of the terms and conditions of using the CoGE may result in a warning, or even the suspension of your membership.

It is our hope these guidelines frame user behavior in a manner that enables CoGE to be a useful and productive area for educators nationally. If you find an element of CoGE to be in violation of the above please feel free to contact the CoGE Administrator directly with your concern.
