Instructional Goals

This module will provide a better understanding of the methods and procedures used to diagnose cancer as well as what information should be recorded on the registry abstract.

Instructional Objectives

After completing the content of the module, the user of this module will be able to:

• describe what types of information are commonly contained in most medical records;
• identify frequently used forms, records, notes, and summary sheets that may found in a facility's medical record;
• describe briefly how medical records are organized;
• describe what cancer cases to abstract, when to abstract cases, and how to abstract tumor registry information;and
• independently abstract pertinent information from a medical record.
