For the coin, one could ask one questions: "is it heads?" and the answer is sufficient to know which one somebody got in a coin flip.

For the DNA bases, one could ask two questions: "Is it on the top?" and "Is it on the right?". These are completely sufficient to define which base a protein has chosen to bind to.
